Caster Semenya puts the 'man' in 'woman'

Facial hair. Deep voice. Bulging muscle.

You’d think I was talking about a guy, but no, I’m talking about Caster Semenya, who recently won a gold medal at the World championships in Berlin for the women’s 800m.

Is she a woman or is she a man? That seems to be the question a lot of people are asking.
She’s young and new to international athletics but her sex has caused a stir even in her native South Africa, where rumours began that she is in fact a man. Upon arriving in Berlin for the Championships rumours again began circling. There has been such an uproar that International Association of Athletics Federation has asked Athletics South Africa to carry out gender test.

IAAF spokesman Nick Davies said, "this type of thing will take months to complete, there are a battery of tests to do. It's very complicated, you need a panel of scientists to debate the result of the test. It's a serious issue.”

Months to complete?

A battery of tests?

Just ask her to take her clothes off and take a look. Surely it’s not that hard. A man has a penis and a woman has a vagina. I’ll break it down even further for Mr Davies. Look down at yours. Now look at hers. If it looks the same, she’s a man. If it doesn’t look like yours, then she’s a woman.

Maybe it's just an unfortunate mistake of hormones gone wild, we do need to bear in mind she is only 18, or maybe it is a case of mistaken gender identity. Whatever the result, this is an example of a fine athlete. In the meantime let the poor girl have the benefit of the doubt here.

Well, to be fair, it is actually a lot more complex than vagina v penis.
Ever heard of hermaphrodites? Or sex change ops? Or chromosomal disorders?
But yes, that would be one way of checking.
